New Mexico State University President Michael Martin, Vice Provost for Economic Development and Dean of Business Garrey Carruthers and Dean of Health and Social Services Jeffrey Brandon were honored Sept. 27 in Albuquerque as three of 120 power brokers in New Mexico. Photos and biographies of all honorees are included in the Sept. 30 issue of the New Mexico Business Weekly 2006 Power Book.

“I feel it’s a great honor and good for NMSU to have three people selected this year,” Brandon said. “The New Mexico Business Weekly Power Party 2005 that was held last Tuesday in Albuquerque was a real exciting gathering of many of this year’s awardees. I was happy to help represent the interests from southern New Mexico at that event. I believe the names included in the book can be useful to the university and to our college as we are being encouraged to work more collaboratively with outside agencies and private interests.”

This is only the second year the award has been given, Brandon said.

Other New Mexicans who were honored include Gov. Bill Richardson, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron, Secretary of Economic Development Rick Homans, Land Commissioner Patrick Lyons, UNM President Louis Caldera and New Mexico Tech President Daniel Lopez.
